BMW Driver Destroys His 5-Series To Avoid The Repo Man In New York

by Chris Chilton

Money troubles are no joke, and there’s nothing inherently funny about someone having their car towed away because they haven’t been able to make payments.

What is hilarious though, is the crazy decisions people will make to to avoid a tow truck taking away a car that, let’s face it, isn’t theirs until they’ve made all the payments on it.

This BMW driver in New York is a case in point. He’s so determined to stop the repo man hauling his 5-Series away that he slams the sedan into reverse in an attempt escape the truck’s tail lift despite the car’s front wheels being lifted off the ground. Unfortunately, while the driver does manage to reverse off the truck’s tail, the 5-Series front bumper decides that it would rather go peacefully with the repo men than abscond with the rest of the car. When the driver pulls back the bumper is wrenched almost clean off, and is left hanging by just a couple of mounting points on the driver’s side.

In a follow-up video, we see the BMW driver still trying to escape the clutches of the truck, whose tail is now lowered to the floor but is still preventing the BMW from escaping. One of the guys with the tow truck recording the episode on his phone tells the BMW driver to look at the damage his actions have caused to his own car, but the driver seems too determined to wriggle free to care.

Or to notice that his young son has moved behind the rear of the car and is in danger of getting squashed between the 5-Series and the driveway gate. We can’t see how much danger the child is in but distressed cries of “Yo, you’re crushing your kid, bro!” from the man filming seem to suggest that if the BMW had backed up any further we could have been looking at a seven-year-old sandwich.

Instead, we see the 5-Series and its on-off bumper making a break for it across the front lawn. It looks like they’ve escaped being towed on this occasion, but the battle has left the sedan with some serious scars that could cost more to fix than the finance he owes on the car. And anyway, you know the repo man will be back before long.
